Sample Detailed Itinerary for the Single Traveller #1

This itinerary was created for one of our past guests. This is just a sample of what we can arrange. We can shorten or lengthen the trip, add or subtract activities,
or create an entirely new itinerary for you.

Day 1: Arrive Cairns - Aboriginal Culture Park

After transferring from the Cairns airport, settle into your hotel right on the Cairns waterfront, with views of the Coral Sea. This evening enjoy dinner and an evening performance at an Aboriginal Culture Park, winner of multiple tourism awards. A perfect introduction to the 40,000 year old aboriginal culture, this parki—named after the local indigenous tribe--showcases aboriginal rituals, dance and traditional foods. Witness the fire-making ceremony, the telling of Dreamtime legends, and listen to the haunting sounds of the didgeridoo. (D)

Day 2: Animal Refuge - Mossman Gorge - Crocodile Cruise - Daintree Rainforest Guided Night Walk

Travel today in the company of a guide and a small group to the famed Cape Tribulation, the site at which explorer Captain Cook ran aground and where two World Heritage areas lie side by side. Along the way, walk with the kangaroos, hold a slithering python or watch the playful koalas at a highly-praised animal sanctuary. Then at Mossman Gorge, go on an interpretive walk with and take a dip in the Gorge’s cool waters. Cross the Daintree River on a croc-spotting cruise and then enter the Daintree, home of the magical ancient rainforest.

At Cape Tribulation explore the Daintree Rainforest which, at one hundred and thirty-five million years old, is the oldest rainforest in the world. Approximately 430 species of birds live here, including 13 endemic species--found nowhere else on earth. Explore the Dubiji boardwalk that runs through rare tropical lowland forest; look for primeval goannas, the giant tree frog, or the musky-rat kangaroo. Then take a short walk to Cape Tribulation beach and see why this area, part of the Kuku Yalanji tribal area, also has great spiritual and cultural significance. If you’re lucky you’ll spot the Peppermint Stick insect on the pandanus palms, or the Daintree’s endangered and giant flightless bird, the cassowary. Tonight the animals stir, the rainforest sings with life, and together with a guide and a handful of other guests, you’ll explore the nocturnal world that comes to life once the sun sets. ( L)

Day 3:Daintree Rainforest - Jungle Zip Line or Beach Horse Riding- Exotic Fruit Tasting on Organic Farm

Today experience the art of “jungle surfing”: an exhilarating flying fox ride among the tree tops. By clipping into a series of steel cables arranged in the trees, you can fly across the rainforest canopy and get a bird’s eye view of the world. During this unique adventure led by naturalists and scientist guides, keep an eye out for Boyd’s Forest dragons and the brilliant blue Ulysses butterfly. For those who want a tamer option, choose a horse ride through the jungle and then canter down the beach with the wind in your hair. Top the morning off with a dip in a private swimming hole.

In the afternoon be treated to a fun group tasting of tropical fruits on an organic farm, involving at least 10 different rare and exotic fruits in any season including the Star Apple, Miracle Fruit and even the Ice Cream Bean before returning to Cairns.

Day 4: The Great Barrier Reef

The Great Barrier Reef—a UNESCO World Heritage Site—lies just off Cairns’ coast, luring snorkelers and divers alike to its underwater universe. It is one of the richest, most complex, and diverse ecosystems in the world. Aboard a magnificent eco-certified catamaran, travel to the reef in style with a collection of other travellers. At the reef’s best snorkeling sites, you can expect to see a kaleidoscope of hard and soft corals, angelfish and “Nemos” in anemones, fascinating but elusive white-tipped reef sharks, giant turtles, and a host of other undersea creatures. SCUBA divers can also “have a go” at exploring what has been considered as one of the seven Natural Wonders of the World. ( L)

Sample Detailed Itineraryfor theSingle Traveller #2

This itinerary was created for one of our past guests. This is just a sample of what we can arrange. We can shorten or lengthen the trip, add or subtract activities, or create an entirely new itinerary for you.

Day 1: Arrive Cairns - Aussie Animals

After transferring from the Cairns airport, settle into your stylish hotel only a block from the Cairns oceanfront. In the afternoon visit an all-weather wildlife exhibit snclosed by a 20-metre high glass dome, and home of the iconic koala. And for those of you who have always wanted a photo holding one of these loaveable creatures--here's your chance. You're also immersed in a replicated rainforest environment while birds such as parrots, cockatoos, lorikeets, doves and rosellas fly freely around you. Get up close to rainforest wallabies (a cousin to the kangaroo), observe curlews, frogmouths and the resident giant cocodile along with other animals such as frogs, turtles, pythons, lizards and adorable bettongs. Meet another Australian icon, the laughing kookaburra, and join a small group presentations by the wildlife staff.

Day 2: Rainforest Exploration, Waterfalls, Ancient Volcanic Craters and Duck-Billed Platypus Spotting

The lush mountains of the Dividing Range rise up from Cairns, and today in a group you explore with a guide the Highlands’ fantastic natural wonders. Take a short walk through the jungle to Josephine Falls—where the triple tiered cascades end with a natural waterslide and a refreshing swimming hole. Swim in an ancient volcanic crater, spot the duck-billed platypus in its natural habitat and see Milla Milla Falls from behind its watery veil. Find out why Babinda Boulders is steeped in aboriginal legend, and let your guide teach your group about the enchanting creatures of the rainforest. There is plenty of lively music and opportunities to meet your fellow travellers while journeying today. (B,L)

Day 3:Sailing to the Great Barrier Reef, Snorkeling or SCUBA Diving.

The Great Barrier Reef—a UNESCO World Heritage Site—is considered one of the world's top natural wonders, and it lies just off Cairns’ coast. In an cozy group of 11 guests, you will set sail for the outer Great Barrier Reef on a 65-foot yacht with a friendly crew. The group size allows for intimacy, flexibility, and personal service not available on larger boats. You can take the opportunity to trim the sails, learn to jibe, and steer the vessel or instead simply soak up the sun on deck.

When you arrive at the reef, snorkelers will delight in viewing the incredible array of life and colors that exist just below the surface. Snorkelers can also take advantage of the chance to try an introductory SCUBA dive—or several intro dives if they wish. SCUBA divers can log up to 5 dives during these two days, including a phenomenal night dive on the reef. In the evening the crew offers up a hearty meal, good conversation, and perhaps a round of karaoke. Boat accommodation is single beds and shared bathrooms, and you have the option of sleeping on deck under the stars. (B,L,D)

Day 4: Great Barrier Reef Sailing, Snorkeling and/or SCUBA Diving

Today you spend another day exploring the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef. A roving marine park permit allows the boat the flexibility of choosing different sites at which to snorkel or dive, most of which are exclusively yours. You can expect to see a thousand shades of hard and soft corals, angelfish and “Nemos” in anemones, elusive white-tipped reef sharks, and giant turtles. You learn about different coral species, the unusual mating habits of some undersea animals, and the conservation issues facing the reef today.

On the sail back to civilization, you are likely to see dolphins swimming and playing alongside us, while in the winter season both humpback and minke whales may make an appearance. After you arrive back in Cairns, perhaps have a drink at a trendy pub on The Pier with your new friends. (B,L)

Day 5:Hunting & Gathering with Aboriginals, Croc-Spotting Cruise and Jungle Swimming Hole

Perhaps the best way to learn about aboriginal culture, today you walk with gentle aboriginal guides of the Kuku Yalanji tribe along the coast they’ve called home for thousands of years. Their specialty is helping you and fellow travellers find mud crabs, mussels, and other “bush tucker” among the mangroves. Learn how to throw spears and try your hand at catching food the traditional way. Later you’re invited to your guide’s home where you meet the family, hear tales of the indigenous “Dreamtime” and eat your day’s catch.

In the afternoon hop aboard a croc-spotting cruise on the Daintree River to get a glimpse of these magnificent creatures in the wild. Your guide knows all of their favourite places to hang out, as well as all about the creatures who live here in the jungle. Then it’s off to a private waterfall that is reached by a short twisty path through the jungle. A natural swimming hole beneath the falls is a perfect cool-off spot at the end of the day. (B,L)

Day 6: Barron Gorge National Park Scenic Rafting

Just a short drive from Cairns' city centre lies the pristine and protected Barron Gorge, through which cuts the magnificent Barron River. First timer rafters will enjoy a mild scenic journey, while experienced rafters will also love the fun Class III rapids. Daily dam releases ensure relaible flows. From Cairns you'll travel in a small group to the put-in in the national park. There you are fitted with life jackets and helmets and after a safety briefing you are on the water. You raft through UNESCO World Heritage rainforest and past waterfalls that tumble from the walls of the gorge. Rapids with evocative names like Hell's Gate, Rooster Tail and Cheese Churn mark your route, and the day ends with group rafting photos at the local micro brewery. (B)

Day 7: Trip Conclusion or Extension<

After breakfast, prepare for your journey home or enjoy a few optional activities such as the Kuranda Skyrail, a sunrise balloon flight or amother day on the Great Barrier Reef. If departing, you are transferred to Cairns International Airport. (B)
