Teachers – consider why an educational excursion might be a great alternative to the same school camp you’ve been going to for years.
Students get access to an underwater universe at The Great Barrier Reef, and can explore the biodiversity in the Daintree Rainforest. Wildlife biologists, marine biologists, Aboriginal elders and naturalist guides all come together to add depth to students’ experience of the natural world.

Benefits of School Excursions With Small World Journeys
Social skills developed. Small World Journeys educational excursions allow the space for the quality of students’ relationships to improve. Through positive interactions with friends and teachers, you will see the outcomes that result in shared positive experiences outside the classroom.
School trips help engage students. Students who have been disengaged from learning in the classroom may find a “learn by doing” approach beneficial. Students can look forward to and prepare for an educational excursion weeks in advance, and a trip provides a break in routine. Teachers can bookend the experience with lesson plans given by Small World Journeys to supplement students’ learning.
Active learning. In a time when young people are spending more time being sedentary that a generation ago, it is important to encourage activity. Small World Journeys educational tours in Queensland allow students to learn and be active at the same time.
Practical skills gained. Practical skills, such as helping prepare a group meal or doing laundry for the first time on a trip away from home, are not ones that can be acquired in the classroom.
Students understand their studies from a new and different perspective. Concepts that were unclear in the classroom may come into focus with an outside instructor. Learning in assorted ways can appeal to varied learning styles, which helps young people succeed whether they are visual, auditory or kinesthetic learners.
Teaching stewardship. On a Small World Journeys tour, students are taught about the company’s “green” efforts and policies, and are encouraged to follow these principles. This may lead to increased awareness in their daily lives about conservation, wastage and sustainability.
Self-confidence acquired. When students are taken from the comfort of their home and classroom environments into unfamiliar territory, this forces them to adapt to new situations. This can lead to a heightened sense of self-confidence in navigating new situations.
Having fun without the ipod. On educational tours with Small World Journeys, students learn that it is possible to have fun without being connected to Facebook or electronics!
Increased appreciation of the natural world. Travelling in some of Queensland’s most beautiful locations can foster a greater respect for the natural world, connection to community and a sense of harmony with nature.
Awakening new desires and dreams. Before an educational excursion with Small World Journeys, a student may have not had the opportunity to discover their love of– for example–marine science. Or of caring for wildlife. Or of travel.
Our mission is to inspire a sense of discovery, or awe, or gratitude in every student who travels with us.
